The Devil You Say!
I am one of those people who believes the universe will send you a sign when you need it. With that said, I’m a little concerned by the signs the universe delivered to me recently.
After a walk in the park last week, I stopped at a local pizzeria to pick up something for dinner. I ordered a slice of sausage pizza and a diet coke. Money in hand, I waited for the cashier to ring up the total on the register.
That total?
$6.66
The clerk quickly deducted a penny, to reduce the price to $6.65
Apparently, in this town, pizza is served with a side of Holy Water.
However, the universe was not done with me.
Two days later, I go to grab a bagel and a cup of coffee. This time, however, it was not my order, but who ever was waited on right before me.
The total on that register?
$6.66
Took out my cell phone and snapped a picture. Unfortunately, that picture didn’t come out (of course it didn’t, the universe doesn’t allow evidence).
A minute later, a customer who saw me take the picture of the register came up to me.
“You should take a picture of my truck license plate,” he said.
“Excuse me,” I replied, then asked, “why?”
“Because,” he said, “my plate is ‘** 666’,” then pointed to his truck in the lot. Sure enough, there was the 666.
“Trucks in horrible shape,” he continued, “but its company issued, and if I turn in the truck, I lose the plate.”
He said he was going to drive it until it just don’t run anymore.
Shortly after, while scrolling through FACEBOOK, I came across an item on my timeline with 666 comments (not as dramatic, but still).
Then this happened last Saturday night.
At the bar for trivia, there were five of us at a table waiting for the game to begin. Had not seen my friend Joe in a while, so I told him of my recent run-ins with the infamous ‘666’.
Of course, there is music in the background, but I didn’t really pay attention. That is, until my friend Jack, who overheard my story, leaned in to us and asked, “You do hear what song is playing, right?”
Stopped talking long enough to hear The Rolling Stones ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ fill the room.
Well played, universe, well played.
